Jabberwocky and Anne

I just finished cataloging last week’s weekly poetry project for LibriVox. We did Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll and this brought in a record number of readers - we ended up with 34 versions! That makes almost a full hour, and yes, I do have it memorized now. We got some really wonderful recordings, this poem seemed to bring out the sense of fun and adventure in lots of our readers. Have a listen if you like: Jabberwocky Catalog Page

And for my wonderful podcast listeners I have a new chapter of Anne ready for you all at last. As usual, I hoped to have this released sooner but “real life” can be distracting at times. All the details are on the Podcast page, or you can just click here to listen right away: Chapter 18

  1. I’ve been listening to you read AoGG and P&P and just wanted to say that you have a lovely voice for reading aloud and I look forward to hearing more audiobooks from you.

  2. Thanks Jane! More Anne should be coming soon. I’ve been quite busy and haven’t had time to record but I expect to soon. :)

  3. I too am following the story of Anne and love listenign to you. Just wondering if there is a way of being alerted when new chapters are out? I am very new to this.

  4. Yes, there is, that’s the beauty of a podcast! You can subscribe to it like a magazine and then whenever a new episode is released, it is delivered straight into your podcatcher. There are lots of free podcatchers out there but the most common is iTunes. If you look on the menu on the right side of my page and scroll to the bottom you will see a header called “Subscribe Podcast” and there are icons below that which will link to the podcatcher of your choice so you can subscribe. If you don’t have a podcatcher (also called an aggregator) just do a google search and you can download itunes or juice or one of the others. Hope that helps and so glad to hear you are enjoying Anne!

  5. I am so sorry to bother you, but after subscribing, which I have done, I am asuming that itunes would have to be open at all times to be searching for your podcast? Also if I am asking these questions in the wrong spot just let me know. Thanks for all your help.

  6. No problem, Anne. iTunes doesn’t have to be open at all times but you will need to open it regularly, once a day or once a week or so - whatever works for you. It will then automatically search for and download any new episodes. I hope that helps, feel free to post any more questions here. :)

  7. Hey Annie,

I have really enjoyed your audiocasts. This coming June I will be working with a colleague to create an audiocast created by 5th graders. Do you have any pointers we can give them to help them read so it doesn’t sound like they’re reading? Thanks for any insights you might provide.

  8. I know I’m not Annie, but I record for LibriVox too, so you might find my tips valuable.

The best thing to do when reading is to relax and get into the story. Make sure not to worry about going too fast, take the time you need to breathe, pause when necessary, and just let it go. If you’re too tense and concentrating too much on sounding like something specific, it will come through in the recording.

  9. Good pointers, Kristin. Also, John, I’d tell the students to enjoy what they are reading and try not to focus on the fact that they’re being recorded.

  10. Thank you so much Kristin and Annie. We will be listening to a few LibriVox recordings for inspiration. The pointers can then be introduced to them as coming from the experts. This is very helpful and thanks again.

  11. Hey Annie!

Many thanks for the AoGG podcasts. It’s been such a hoot that I pretty much went through all the podcasts in one sitting.

Best wishes and looking forward to the next chapters,

    Kim

  12. I’m flattered Kim! I’m finally back into recording and just released a new chapter. Enjoy. :)
