Here’s a preview of the top secret project I’m working on for my mom’s birthday (this Saturday):
This is my favorite yarn I have ever worked with. It is Nashua Cilantro and it is 70% Cotton and 30% Polyester. So it has the softness of cotton but it is amazingly stretchy! The project is nearly finished and I’ll post pictures after mom has her gift.
In the meantime, I’m working like mad on my top secret project for my dad for Father’s Day. It’s going quickly though so I don’t think I’ll have a problem. I still haven’t finished up the Camo Sweater, it has been put on the back burner now that it’s warm out and I have a few more gift deadlines to meet but it should be finished soon.
In the meantime, I’ve been making springtime ankle socks! This is Blue Ridge Yarns HandPainted Superwash Merino Sock in Jubilee - Sunset (Color 0I2).
I’ve gotten two pairs out of one skein so far and am going to try for a third. On the second pair I tried a short row heel, this was my first attempt. It was mostly successful but for some reason, on each sock I ended up with the left sides of each sock being a bit more holey and gaping whereas the right sides are nice and tight. See?

Any ideas what’s causing this? Is it just normal heel gaping? I’m going to try to get a third pair out of the yarn I have left and learn a toe-up sock.

You can try to remove those gaps by increasing one stitch in that spot, and decreasing the next row. Whenever I do a heel flap sock I always increase to either side of the instep stitches, and decrease on the next row. Perhaps for the short-rows you could do that right after finishing the heel.
