Chunky Update
This is with each color used at least twice. I think it’s kinda charming how the middle rectangle looks crooked. I suspect it is because I cast on a bit too tightly and the middle rectangle is actually a bit more like a middle trapezoid. Oh well! It’s soft and warm and nice to knit on spread over my lap in the evenings. I’ve used up almost half of my yarn. At that point I’ll measure and figure out how many square inches I have, double it, and estimate what the finished size will be (since everyone who has seen the thing keeps asking me!).
If you’re wondering about the order of the colors, it is basically random. I try to put colors that contrast near each other and I try to use each color on a different side each time. I also try to arrange it so that I’m using up the different colors at about the same rate. But some of these things occured to me and were implemented later than others so mostly its random. I think after all the very careful calculation and measurement that went into making my mom’s cardigan, this is sort of my mindless, imperfect, just-keep-on-knitting project that I need to do right now.

Mindless, imperfect, just-keep-on-knitting projects are the best
hehe… how did you know that I was wondering about your logic for selecting the next color?!?! I love your approach and love watching the progress of this project =)
Thank you for telling me about the alternate monkey sock pattern. I think that it is the answer that I have been looking for.
Your blanket is coming along lovely. I do enjoy how you put the colours together.
LOL, Betsie, because it’s exactly the kind of OCD thing I would obsess over and wonder about if I were reading this! Glad to be of some help, Raven.
